Nepal’s Youngest CUV Tata NRG- “Energy to do more”

TATA constantly brings hype and buzz in the auto market. Tata never failed to surprise the customers, on every product they launched. Now, embarking an aggressive energy model Tata NRG finally entered to Nepali market. Tata describes the NRG as an urban toughroader that gets the host of cosmetic upgrades and changes. The model will be enchanting on the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X, Ford Freestyle and Renault kwid in the segment, which considers as the sole rival for NRG at present.

Debuted as the Urban Toughroader, the Tiago NRG further extends the Tiago line-up, as this variant takes it inspiration from SUV looks tougher than the regular hatchback. Dimensionally, the Tiago NRG is slightly longer, wider and taller while the wheelbase remains the same. The ground clearance on the NRG has been increased to 180 mm, perfect combination to Nepali road to ride.

THE EXTERIOR

NRG receives as a black body kit, that includes two-tone front bumpers as well as integrated sliver scuff plates, side skirts and cladding around wheel and tailgate. Case with cross hatches, bits of beefier CUV-like design cues NRG results in a marginal increase in exterior dimension but doesn’t affect the space inside. 5-seater NRG has the length of 3793mm, the width of 1665mm and a wheelbase of 2400mm. NRG rides on 14-inch alloy wheels. The grill, mirror, roof, and B-pillar are get blacked out with the small roof spoiler. Tiago NRG will be available on 3 colors; Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White. NRG uses an unconventional and futuristic design which looks years ahead of its time.

THE INTERIOR

The black treatment cabin gets distinct orange highlights to differentiate it from another regular hatchback. The seats are well wrapped in denim-inspired fabric and these too get orange detailing with sporty appeal. 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice assist with 8-speaker Harman System with Bluetooth, USB, AUX-in iPod connectivity with 3d navigation. The instrument cluster features two analog pods for showing speed and engine rpm. Between two pods is multi info display which shows your engaged gear, when to change gear, distance to empty, range, average fuel efficiency, fuel level etc. Height adjustable driver seat, cooled glove box and height adjustable steering wheel is the next best things to love with NRG.

THE ENGINE

Powered by the 1.2L Revotron petrol engine and 1.05L Revotorq diesel engine, NRG available on five manual transmissions. The petrol engine produces 84bhp and 114Nm of torque and diesel engine is tuned to produce 69bhp and 140Nm of torque. The petrol variant of the NRG returns a mileage of 23.84KM/L while the diesel model delivers a healthy mileage 27.28KM/L.

NRG has all the ingredients to tackle the Nepali roads. The suspension is still stiff enough to provide a planted feel at high speeds and cornering. The improved throttle response is always welcome when you want to cruise fast or overtake.

SAFETY FIRST PRIORITY

Tata never compromises on safety, so with NRG equipped with standard safety features such as; dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, corner stability reserve parking assist, driver seat belt reminder, armored body and cabin, smart rear wiper and follow-me headlamps. Other safety features like engine immobilizer, central locking, anti-theft, speed sensing auto lock. That makes NRG more powerful with more energizing.

VERDICT

A couple of years ago, Tata was not younger demographic brand and choice of car. The situation won’t remain same, tata changed along with time and now NRG with more energy become one of the best and popular brands in the Nepalese market. Tata aims to deviations with NRG in every level from price to performance. The distinctive exterior to engine performance, rugged design with a bevy of features it appeals to attract the younger crowds in large numbers.


Surprisingly, NRG can be yours just under 30 Lakhs. If you are looking for crossover hatchback with good mileage and a decent amount of features then NRG should be your choice.
