With a strong United Nations UN theme “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women's lives,” this year International Women’s Day is ready to celebrate. This year theme is taken from the global movements held all over the world in the women’s rights and justice. Same way including #MeToo , #TimesUp and #PressforProgress campaign that run all around the world and much more in Social Media. The theme issues generally intensification on Sexual harassment, femicide to equal pay and women’s in political representation. UN hope the status of women in International Women’s Day will bring greater attention to the rights and activism of rural women who are left behind.

History
It was 1908 with a group of 15,000 women marched in the street of New York, demanding their rights and freedom and celebrated first International Women’s Day. Sine, then every year on March 8 the world joins hands together to celebrate this day. The major purpose to celebrate this day to rises voice on different themes, issues on women’s rights and their opportunity. Most of the countries celebrate this day holding street marches, open discussion, debate and other various program.

Women’s Day and Nepal
As usual, Nepal is not left behind to celebrate this day. Early in the morning of March 8 we can observe many women marchers carrying big pamphlets and enchanting big theme with full enthusiasm and pro-actively. Many I/NGO’s and women activists, came into the same ground, put their voices and made alert on women’s rights and celebrate wisely. This is remarkable. But still Nepal faced many challenges in the issues of addressing Women’s rights and freedom. Around, 28 percent of women aged 15-49 experience physical and sexual violence in their lifetime as per the data by the Ministry of Health and Population. Same way report by Women’s Rehabilitation Center, Nepal, 73 per cent women suffered from domestic violence, 9 per cent sexual violence and rape and 1 per cent were trafficked to various countries for forced labour and prostitution from January to mid-December 2017.

Just a week back an 8-year-old girl was brutally raped in the rural village of Parsa. Every year numbers of girls are forced to get victimized and lost their innocent life. But still situation is same, no any crucial punishment had given so far. Even, government action is not much worth to address such issues. Big talks happened most of the week in capital related to women beneficial. Lot’s of stories are shared to the world related to women’s right and welfare. But the implementation had no any tremendous effects so far.

Now, country’s driven into the next level, we are in the hope new era and prosperity and for stable government. Government for all, every gender and every group. After 20 years of struggle Nepal came to the federal process. This means possible for anything, development to decentralization. Still Nepal’s lack with same issues, we have very low number of female representatives in the local levels. Instead of practicing fair mix of men and women in main executive position, political parties in Nepal reserved most powerful executive positions only for males. The saddest part is that we don’t have any female Chief Ministers in all seven Provinces.

Gender equality is the crucial issues, talked all over the world. In the country like Nepal this is the hot most talked issues. Nepal where, most of the women are forced to discriminate in the name of education, employment, health, labour market and their freedom, because we have no any supportive factor. Our country’s/ community are still dominated by male. This is an absolutely negative impact, in the growth and development. No any part of the world is getting successful, when women are left behind. Every Men should stand for Female and vice-versa. We should stand together and eradicate the negative mindset for women from the grassroots. We can only achieve the country’s goal and sustainable development if we able to equality by encouraging men and boys as agents of change and take action against negative inequalities faced by women and girls.

Once Chief Operating Officer COO of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg said “In the future, there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders.”

Happy World International Women’s Day. Time is now!
